The card design seen at this station is a copy of an original antique valentine card from 1942 with a military theme. Valentines and love letters were common during WWII. Girls at home wanted their soldiers to feel that there was something worth fighting for and coming home to, and soldiers were more than happy to receive these declarations and return the sentiments. Sweetheart jewelry also became quite common as women on the home front wanted to show support for their sons, fathers, brothers, husbands, and beaus, and the jewelry often sported a heart, like the one below:
